Foggy Bottom [Foggy Bottom]
an area of low land in ↑Washington, DC, by the ↑Potomac River, on which the US ↑State Department buildings are situated. The name is also used to refer to the ↑State Department itself, and journalists often joke that this is a good name for the Department, because the information it gives them is ‘foggy’, i.e. not clear.
